ACA Open Enrollment 2027 Help in Tampa

Open Enrollment for 2027 Marketplace coverage opens November 1, 2026. If you live in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco or Polk County, this page is the practical version: what to have ready, which dates actually matter, and how to decide between a Marketplace plan and a private plan if you lost your subsidy or never had one. I am a licensed Tampa broker certified with HealthCare.gov. The help is free, by phone, in English or Spanish. For the national overview, see the [Open Enrollment 2027 guide](/guides/open-enrollment-2027); this page is about getting it done in Tampa.

What is different about 2027 plans, in general terms

Three things shape this year's shopping for Tampa households. First, the enhanced premium tax credits that lowered Marketplace premiums from 2021 through 2025 expired, so 2026 and 2027 prices reflect the standard subsidy rules. Households above the standard income cap pay the full premium, and households inside it get a smaller credit than they remember. Second, carriers re-file their plans every year. The 2027 version of your plan can have a different premium, a different out-of-pocket maximum and a different list of doctors, even if the name on the card is the same. Third, the Marketplace is asking more households to document income and verify eligibility, so applications with missing paperwork can stall.

None of that means you should skip the Marketplace. It means you should review the 2027 plan instead of letting it auto-renew, with your documents ready.

The dates that matter in Tampa

    • November 1, 2026: Open Enrollment opens for 2027 coverage. Florida uses HealthCare.gov, so Tampa households shop on the federal Marketplace.
    • December 15, 2026: the deadline to pick a plan that starts January 1, 2027. Enroll after this date and coverage generally starts February 1, which leaves a one-month gap if your current plan ends in December.
    • January 15, 2027: the scheduled close of the window on HealthCare.gov for 2027 coverage. Federal rules on the closing date have shifted in recent years, so treat December 15 as your real deadline and confirm the current close with me.
    • After the window closes: you need a qualifying event such as losing other coverage, moving to Tampa, getting married or having a baby to enroll in a Marketplace plan. Private plans do not have a window and can start the first of any month after approval.

What to have ready for a 15-minute call

You do not need to fill anything out before we talk. Gather these and the application takes one call:

    1. Household list. Everyone who files on your tax return, with birthdates. If someone in the household has an employer plan or Medicare, note that too.
    2. A 2027 income estimate. Not last year's number. For W-2 households, the current pay stub. For self-employed households, a rough net figure after expenses. The subsidy is based on 2027 income and reconciled on your 2027 tax return, so an honest estimate now saves a surprise in April 2028.
    3. Doctors and hospitals you want to keep. Tampa Bay Marketplace plans are mostly HMOs with county-based networks. A plan that is in network at one hospital system may not be at another, and a Pinellas plan may not cover routine care in Hillsborough.
    4. Medications. Name and dose. We check each one against the plan's drug list before you enroll, not after the first pharmacy visit.
    5. Immigration documents, if applicable. Lawfully present residents can enroll on the Marketplace. Having the document type and number handy avoids a verification hold.

Marketplace or private: if you lost your subsidy or never had one

For many Tampa households this is the real question this year. If your household income is above the subsidy range, or if you are a single adult or a couple with no children whose income went up, the Marketplace price you see is the full price. For healthy adults, a private, medically underwritten plan is often less per month and usually comes with a national PPO network instead of a county HMO.

The honest comparison has two columns. On one side, the Marketplace plan with whatever subsidy you qualify for, guaranteed acceptance, essential health benefits and county networks. On the other, a private plan priced on your health rather than your income, with underwriting that can decline or exclude a condition. If you have a serious condition, the Marketplace is the guaranteed route and I will enroll you there at no cost. If you are healthy and paying full price, you should see both numbers before December 15. Our private vs Marketplace guide goes deeper on that trade-off.

    Help in English and Spanish

Tampa Bay has a large Spanish-speaking population, and the Marketplace application has questions that are easy to get wrong in a second language. I handle the entire application in Spanish or English, by phone, text or screen share. The Spanish version of this page is at Ayuda con la Inscripción Abierta 2027 en Tampa.

Where in Tampa Bay you live changes the plan menu

Hospital systems and networks differ across the bay. I keep local pages for Brandon, Riverview, Wesley Chapel, St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Lakeland, and a statewide page for Florida health insurance.

Mistakes I see every November in Tampa

    • Letting the plan auto-renew without checking the 2027 network and out-of-pocket costs.
    • Reusing last year's income estimate when a raise, a new business or a retirement changed it.
    • Choosing the lowest premium without checking whether the primary care doctor is in network.
    • Waiting until the last week of December and ending up with a February 1 start.

    How to get started

Send me your zip code, the people who need coverage and a rough 2027 income, or request a quote online. I will run the Marketplace price with your subsidy, and if it makes sense, a private quote next to it, and tell you which one I would pick for your household. Call or text (786) 218-2384. The help is free; the carrier pays the broker, and your premium is the same either way.

    Frequently asked questions

When is Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage in Tampa?

It opens November 1, 2026 on HealthCare.gov, which Florida uses. December 15, 2026 is the deadline for coverage that starts January 1, 2027. The window is scheduled to close January 15, 2027, but federal rules on the closing date have changed in recent years, so confirm the current date before relying on it.

Is there a cost for Open Enrollment help from a broker in Tampa?

No. A broker certified with HealthCare.gov enrolls you at no cost, and you receive the same subsidy and pay the same premium you would enrolling on your own. The carrier pays the broker.

What documents do I need to enroll in a Marketplace plan?

Birthdates and Social Security numbers for everyone on the application, a 2027 income estimate with a recent pay stub or self-employment figure, immigration documents if applicable, and your list of doctors and medications so the network and drug list can be checked first.

I lost my subsidy. Should I still enroll on the Marketplace?

Compare first. Without a subsidy you pay the full Marketplace premium, which is often an HMO with a county network. Healthy adults frequently find a private PPO costs less per month. Anyone with a serious health condition should stay on the Marketplace, where acceptance is guaranteed.

Can I get help enrolling in Spanish in Tampa?

Yes. The entire application, the plan comparison and the service after enrollment can be done in Spanish, by phone, text or screen share, with a licensed broker rather than a call center.
